Becoming a Motorcycle Instructor
If you are over 21 and have held a full motorcycle licence for at least 3 years then you could become an instructor. Ideally your licence will be clean, but some points on your licence may be accepted at the DSA's discretion, as the industry is after 'fit and proper' people.
There are different levels of instructor:
Down Trained
Trained and assessed by a qualified instructor and permitted to train at CBT level only within the ATB that trained you.
CBT1
Attend the DSA centre at Cardington and pass a rigourous 2 day assessment. This permits you to train at CBT level and down-train other new instructors. You could also open your own A.T.B.
DAS
Once qualified at CBT1 level (you cannot progress directly to DAS) you attend the DSA centre at Cardington and pass a half day assessment. This allows you then to train at CBT and DAS level.
The Cardington assessments are currently free of charge but you will need to pay for your own accommodation.
