One of bike-moore's main drivers is the promotion of road safety / motorcycle safety, with a particular focus on the 16 - 19 year old motorcyclists, who currently have the highest casualty rate in the county.

We are working with Oxfordshire County Council Road Safety Team delivering classroom based moped / motorcycle safety sessions to 15 - 17 year olds. The number of young adults now taking to mopeds / scooters instead of learning to drive is rapidly increasing due to the rising cost of car insurance, fuel etc. However, unfortunately a number of these young adults are becoming part of the statistics, due to inexperience, poor training and blase attitudes to the hazards of the road.

These sessions aim to raise awareness that mopeds / motorcycles can be a good way to gain independence, but that it can be done in a much safer way. The sessions themselves are fun and interactive, using questions, group work and games to illustrate the points.
The session was recently delivered to Steeple Aston Youth Group - see feedback below. Keep an eye out in the local press for Oxfordshire County Council's press release regarding the sessions (due early November).
Session with Steeple Aston Youth Group 23rd September 10. Feedback received:
"Very informative. Beautifully executed. I would definitely recommend it. It made me want to start to learn to ride a moped. I feel more comfortable now I know the risks. The demonstrations were very effective. It's vey hand on." - N.M Age 19
"I did learn alot. It was very good. I liked the quiz. We get car safety but we don't get motorcycle safety at school. I would recommend it. I learned there is a blind spot in mirrors. It made me want to learn to ride a moped" - H.B. Age 15 from Warriner School
"It was good. Good information. I learned about blind spots in mirrors. I haven't had anything like it in school. I would recommend it for people getting a moped. I thought the quiz was good. It was good that they were determined - they wanted us to learn. It was good they brought equipment and special clothes" - C.R. Age 15 from The Marlborough School
"I'm learning to drive but didn't know about motorcycle safety. The bit about blind spots was really interesting. I think they should do motorcycle safety in school as loads of people ride mopeds. It was nice of them to take the time to come and make us aware. You could tell they were passionate about it. They were nice people" - G.H Age 18 from Chenderrit School

The sessions are offered Free of Charge and last approximately 45 minutes. Group sizes can range from 6 to 90 youngsters.
